Connect With Matakana Country Lodge!

Gibbs Farm – The perfect place for a visit by Auckland Getaway Visitors and International Tourists alike that stay at Matakana Country Lodge.

This week Garth and I were invited to join some friends for a “day out in the neighbourhood.”

They wanted to show us what our guests could accomplish in a day – something a little different.

We were chauffeured in a limousine supplied by Warkworth Tours and taken first to Gibbs Farm located 20 minutes drive from the Lodge at Kaipara Harbour.

Gibbs Farm is only open to the public on special occasions, hence we felt very fortunate to have the opportunity to walk around the farm and admire the works of art that are spread around the vast property.

What a magnificent site some of these sculptures are. I had no idea that Alan Gibbs has a large collection of unique animals to compliment his art. 3 hours just whizzed by as we were kept entertained by the various artists, the views and the animals. . Fresh air, a warm wind, views to die for and 3 hours exercise, what a fantastic way to start the day.

We were then chauffeured to the Riverhead Pub which has had a complete makeover. The food was superb and the surroundings magic as our table looked over the river. Our timing was impeccable as we watched “The Red Boat” an old timer make its way down river back to the city of Auckland.

Just when we thought the day was over, we were taken for wine tastings in Kumeu – a perfect ending to a perfect day.

What a memorable 6.5 hours that was! We now have a new itinerary for guests wanting something a little different – we just have to ensure they time their stay when Gibbs Farm is open to the public.
