Matakana In May is Pure Magic!

No matter where you look there are glorious rows of vines aglow with bursts of vibrant flame coloured leaves. It is like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The grape harvest is complete, the crushing done, and the new vintage is ready to be tasted. Don’t get too excited about this prospect, wine that has not been barrelled is not always easy on the palate; however it is fun to imagine how great it will taste in a year or two!

To celebrate this magnificent time of year we have put together 2 night packages and called them “MAY MAGIC”. 2 nights’ accommodation, Happy Hour drinks and nibbles, breakfast both mornings and a complimentary wine tasting at one of the local vineyards.

Arrive anytime from 2pm onwards and enjoy “Happy Hour” complimentary drinks and nibbles with Garth and myself and meet the other guests. Enjoy a sumptuous breakfast of fresh fruit, yoghurt, homemade muesli and a cooked option with juice/tea/coffee before heading off to the famers market, a gallery, for a round of golf, horseback riding, a walk through one of the many regional parks/beaches, sculpture trail or head to the vineyard for your complimentary wine tasting.

Ensure you get back in time for “Happy Hour” between 6 – 7pm before heading out for dinner to a local restaurant, pub or café. Enjoy a sleep in Sunday morning, followed by a leisurely breakfast. If you are not in a hurry to get home, why not explore more of what the region has to offer.

The inaugural “Taste Matakana” will take place on Saturday 18 May at Morris and James from noon to 5pm. We still have rooms available at the Lodge that weekend, so act now and be one of the first to participate in this unique event. Details about “Taste Matakana” can be found on our event calendar.

Package prices are displayed on the “Deals and Discounts” page.
